Hi there, and welcome to Money Hero! I love personal finance. So much so that one day I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great to start a blog teaching people what I know about how to manage their money?’ And thus the Money Hero was born!

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Personal finance can be one of the most daunting things that anyone, from those entering the workforce for the first time to those who are in their golden years of retirement, may face.

You may be thinking, ‘Retirement? 401(k)? Roth IRA? Budgeting? What do all of these things mean, and how do they pertain to me?’ Great question! Robert Kiyosaki, author of the best-selling personal finance book Rich Dad Poor Dad, sums it up quite nicely:

Financial freedom is available to those who learn about it and work for it.

Seems simple, right? And that’s the secret: it really is that simple. I want to help point you in the right direction, the direction of financial freedom. With a little bit of discipline and hard work, you can be on the right path.

My story

So let me start with my story. I’m not a billionaire venture capitalist or a Wall Street guru. I didn’t win the lottery, or get a huge inheritance from a great-aunt I didn’t know I had. I’m just a regular, everyday guy who works hard and cares about where his money is going.

My first job was at the tender age of 16 at my local Wendy’s, and I was absolutely terrible with money. I spent money faster than I could earn it. You’d think I’d get some sense when I got to college… Nope. I abused student loans and credit cards until I found myself in a sizable amount of debt with little to show for it. After college I got a decent paying job in my field, and finally started to get serious about personal finance.

I absorbed all the information I could get my hands on about budgeting and saving, retirement, and how to effectively repay debt. And I want to share my knowledge with you. I’m by no means perfect, but I feel that I have a good handle on my own personal finances now, and it’s something that I’m incredibly passionate about. Your story won’t be my story, but you can take what you learn here and apply it to your own life.
