Welcome to my first expense report! I will periodically show you all of my expenses, and what percentage of my income goes to each. It is a good way to give you an idea of what my budget looks like. So here goes:

Electric: 1.3%
Water: < 1%
Car Insurance: 4.1%

Gasoline: 2.4%
Student Loan Payments: 9.7%
Credit Card Debt: 7.8%

As you know, you want to keep your expenses lower than your income. If you’re spending more money than you’re making, then you will never be financially successful. It’s that simple. Also, don’t forget that saving is not only an expense that should be included in your budget, but it should be the first expense.

Pay yourself first! Always pay yourself first. Everyone else is lined up to get a piece of your paycheck, so why shouldn’t you be first in that line? Find an amount that you can comfortably save, and have that amount automatically deducted from your paycheck. Then work with what you have left over.
